New Year’s Resolutions equals Ballroom Dance Lessons

Why You Should Make Ballroom Dance Lessons Part of Your New Year’s Resolutions

So it’s 2021, and that means New Year’s resolutions. If you’re like many people, you’re doing everything you can to stick to your resolutions. But how long will they last? Studies posted on nypost.com, usatoday.com, and inc.com say that people are already starting to lose their commitment. Some only make it to the second or third week of January, and by mid February, 80 percent have dropped their New Year’s resolutions.

This isn’t great news for people hoping to make this year “their year” and finally lose weight, be less stressed, meet new people, have more fun, or get their finances in order.

Skip the gym membership this year. Don’t waste your time thinking about all of the things that you want to do. It’s time to take a different approach. Applause Dance Factory wants to help you stick to your resolution while having fun doing it. Keep reading to learn how to get started for FREE!

Get More Exercise

The most common resolution revolves around getting more exercise–whether your goal is to lose weight, get in shape, or get healthier. The solution, for these and other similar goals, is exercise. Sure, you can sign up for another gym membership. Hit it hard for a month and then slowly back off until you stop going in February. You can fight for the machines in the overcrowded gyms. It’s time to do things differently this year.

Ballroom dancing might sound like a lot of fun (and it is!) but trust us, it’s also a challenging workout! But what is ballroom dancing? Ballroom dancing is an umbrella term that includes dances you might expect like waltz, foxtrot, and tango. It also includes Latin dances like salsa, cha cha, rumba, and many others as well. Throw in your favorite style of swing dancing and you have a fun and diverse workout routine. Dancing builds your cardiovascular system and uses nearly every muscle in your body. Want to strengthen your core? Improve flexibility and balance? Dancing does that too. Ballroom dancing lessons really are the perfect all-in-one workout. You’ll be having so much fun that you won’t even realize that you’re exercising. That’s the best part! That’s what makes it easy to keep going! It’s not drudgery, it’s Fun.

Meet New People

Your New Year’s resolution might be to meet new people. Because of COVID, you’ve been stuck in your own little world, only talking to people at home and maybe at work. What better way to meet new people than to sign up for ballroom dance classes? Don’t be intimidated. Even Fred Astaire, one of the most famous dancers in the world, had to learn how to dance. In fact, it was said at an early movie audition that Mr. Astaire “can’t act, can’t sing, can dance a little”! And don’t worry about the other students in class. Everyone is there to learn how to be better dancers, meet new people, and have a good time. We believe a dance studio should be a judgment-free zone, and you’ll quickly find a supportive community of dancer friends.

Learn Something New

We all do it. We get stuck in a daily routine. It’s get up, go to work, go home, eat dinner, watch TV, and go to bed. Then, we do it over and over again. Before you know it, Halloween decorations are in the stores and you haven’t taken down your Christmas lights yet! Break that cycle and commit yourself to learning something new.

Ballroom dance lessons are a great way to expand your horizons, build self-confidence, and meet new people. At Applause Dance Factory in Ridgeland, we offer a wide variety of dance classes. You can start with any dance you like. The most popular ballroom dances are the foxtrot, waltz, and tango. Rumba, cha cha, salsa, and swing are the most popular Latin and rhythm dances. With every class you will be learning something new, something that will enrich your life! In addition to the mental challenge of learning new footwork, you’ll deepen your understanding and appreciation of music, or even discover aspects of yourself that have been neglected. Ballroom dancing may become your new passion and creative outlet. You can learn to social dance, or go beyond that into competitive or exhibition styles as well. Yes, you can dance like the stars!

Strengthen Relationships

It’s too easy to get caught up in the day to day tasks of a busy life and lose sight of the things that really matter. If you’ve been neglecting your relationships, it’s time to reprioritize. If you want to spend more time with family or friends, sign up to take ballroom dance lessons together!

Sure, you could have drinks, go to dinner, or watch a movie, but why not do something interactive? Make some real memories? Learning to dance together is a fun and light-hearted way to spend your time together. You can encourage each other, learn to laugh at your ability (or inability) to perform the steps correctly, and just enjoy spending time together. And at the end of the lesson, you’ll have something besides work to discuss over dinner and a glass of wine. Make dance lessons a ritual you enjoy together.

Reduce Stress

Everyone wants to be less stressed. Unfortunately, reducing stress is often easier said than done. Consider taking ballroom dance lessons as an active way to reduce stress. You could always meditate, but doesn’t dancing sound like much more fun? Studies have shown ballroom dancing to be great at reducing stress. As a bonus, you will also improve your fitness level, meet new people, and have a great time (the opposite of being stressed!).
